Today we had the great priviledge to go on a field trip as a whole elementary group. We went to a Korean farm where they have pears, sweet potatoes, rice and so much more. We participated in picking and tasting amazing pears, riding a farm tractor, digging up sweet potatoes with hoes, blowing amazing bubbles, going down a slippery slide and separating the rice after it was harvested. It was a perfect Autumn day in the warm sun. We have been working hard in class on using reading strategies while reading and developing ideas and meaning in our writing. Below are some pictures of charts we have created during our reading and writing workshops.
Mr. Lea took some videos during our camp and uploaded them on Youtube. Only people with the link will be able to view them.
Please have a look at them. Today we boarded the tour buses provided by the USO Tour company (A tour company run by the United States Overseas Forces). We visited Imjingak Peace park to see the Freedom bridge and a place where memorial services are held to remember families separated by the war. Then we drove further and visited the Doraksan Train station, a station ready to be connected the other global railways if the Korea's would reunify. Then we would be able to take a train from Korea to Russia and even to Europe. We enjoyed some Bibimbab and other Korean food and then went to the Doraksan Observatory. We peered into the murky air to try and make out some parts of North Korea and also watched a video there. From there we visited the Third tunnel that North Korea dug under the DMZ to try and infiltrate the South. We drove back to Seoul and treated ourselves with some Korean BBQ in the famous area of Myeongdong in Seoul. At the moment everyone has packed up, ready to depart for Lotte world tomorrow and hopefully everyone is in dreamland by now. Today started out early with everyone full of energy. Fueled with some breakfast with their groups we all go on the bus to the Korean War Memorial. We broke up into our houses and moved together in our groups. After enjoying seeing huge tanks, airplanes, exhibitions and learning a lot about the role of the UN in the Korean war, we all headed off to the Itaewon area for some lunch. With tummies full again each group moved off with their teacher using the subway to travel to the Tourism Organisation's head office. There each group received their instructions and set off into downtown Seoul to find answers to questions and take pictures for house points. The teachers were not allowed to help, so all the students had to make use of their own skills to the utmost. They consulted their maps and their phones or smart devices, they asked other people on the street if they could not find something and did a great job in accomplishing their objectives. At last we took the last subway ride to where our buses met us to take our tired bodies and minds to our hostel. With some rest, showers, pizza for dinner and a late night hot chocolate birthday party the day ended on a high note. Tomorrow we will look a bit closer to the Korean conflict at the DMZ.
