Bia brought a reprinted version of the newspaper printed the day after the Pearl Harbour attack in Hawaii in 1941. This was to contribute to our unit on conflict resolution. We read some of the articles, discussed the history and some hard vocabulary and had a laugh at the old advertisements.

Today we started to read the book Year of Impossible Goodbyes by Sook Nyul Choi in class today. We will be reading the book together in class and discuss the chapters throughout our Conflict Resolution unit. This book also links to our trip to Seoul and the DMZ.
We discussed the cover and blurb and used comprehension strategies to read the first page. Through the reading of this book we are also learning how to use comprehension strategies like the following:
and many more... Today we learned about Mean, Median and Mode in class using some Youtube videos. We applied our knowledge of it to our Speed test scores. Our mean test score for our class is 89 out of 100. We took 5 minutes to complete our test of 100 multiplication, addition, subtraction and division facts.
One of the students in class came to inform us of a comet we could possibly see by the end of the year.
Article on the internet about it. A few weeks ago we all sat down to watch a live rocket launch during school time, however there were some technical problems and the launch was post-poned. One of our students found out more about it and created a PowerPoint and talk to tell us about the rocket and what happened. The students worked hard in the week before Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) and mostly completed their projects. Below are some of their projects, some students wanted to create posters while others created digital presentations or books. Pictures of the posters will be uploaded soon. Today we kicked off our new unit about conflict resolution with an arm wrestling match. While nurturing our sore arms we discussed how we felt. The responses included the following: "painful, fun, revenge, noooo!". Please visit our UOI page to see more about what we will be studying about for the next 5 weeks.
This morning we watched the following video and learned about Powers and Exponents. A cool way to write really big numbers! What is 5 to the power of 9? We are busy finalising our research topics for our personal inquiry into Astronomical Discoveries. Here's a website with a list of some of the most important discoveries in Astronomy. Below there's also a video with more detailed information. |
